El Nido Environmental Fee — What Is It and How to Pay - Palawan Transfers

The El Nido Environmental User Fee is required for every visitor and is the one thing most travelers only find out about at the pier — when their boat is about to leave. Here is everything you need to know so you are not that person holding up the tour.

Quick Answer

The El Nido Environmental User Fee costs ₱200 per person and is valid for the duration of your stay — pay once and keep the receipt. Pay at the El Nido Tourism Office on Real Street on your first day. You cannot board island hopping boats without the receipt. Online payment options may be available — check current status on arrival.

What the Fee Covers

The Environmental User Fee funds marine protection, reef monitoring, ranger patrols, and beach cleanup programs in the Bacuit Bay marine protected area. El Nido’s lagoons and coral reefs are protected under a local government ordinance — the fee is the mechanism that funds that protection. It is not a scam, not a tourist trap, and ₱200 for access to some of the most beautiful marine environments on Earth is genuinely one of the best-value fees in Southeast Asian tourism.

Where and How to Pay

  1. Go to the El Nido Tourism Office on Real Street in El Nido town — it is near the pier and easy to find, usually open from 7:00 AM.
  2. Bring your passport or a valid ID.
  3. Pay ₱200 cash per person.
  4. Receive a numbered wristband or receipt — keep this for the entire duration of your stay.
  5. Show the receipt or wristband when boarding any island hopping boat. Rangers also check at the entrances to Big Lagoon and Secret Lagoon.

Important Details to Know

  • Pay on Day 1 of your stay, not the morning of your first tour. If you try to pay at the pier at 8:45 AM while your boat is loading you will likely miss your departure.
  • The fee is per person, not per tour. You pay once and the wristband or receipt covers all island hopping during your entire El Nido stay.
  • Children under a certain age are exempt. Ask at the tourism office on arrival — the age threshold changes periodically.
  • Keep your receipt safe. Lost receipts require repayment. A waterproof phone case protects it on the boat.
  • The fee may increase. ₱200 has been the standard rate but fees are reviewed periodically. The figure above is current for 2026 — verify at the tourism office on arrival.
