Port Barton Palawan Travel Guide 2026 — The Quiet Alternative to El Nido

Port Barton Palawan Travel Guide 2026 — The Quiet Alternative to El Nido - Palawan Transfers

Port Barton is what El Nido was 15 years ago — a small fishing village on a beautiful bay, with no large resorts, no crowds, and some of the clearest water in Palawan. It sits between Puerto Princesa and El Nido and most travelers drive straight past it. That is their loss. This guide covers everything you need to plan a stop in Port Barton for 2026.

How to Get to Port Barton

From Puerto Princesa

A van transfer from Puerto Princesa to Port Barton is the most practical option. The drive takes 3 to 3.5 hours, passing through Roxas before turning off toward San Vicente and descending into Port Barton. Palawan Transfers offers this route daily — book here from ₱750 per person (shared) or ₱5,500 per van (private).

From El Nido

By van, the journey from El Nido to Port Barton takes 1.5 to 2 hours along the highway south. By speedboat, a direct crossing takes 3 to 4 hours and is weather-dependent — this option is available from most guesthouses in Port Barton and offers stunning coastal views but is not always possible in rough seas.

What to Do in Port Barton

Island Hopping

Port Barton’s island hopping is the main attraction. Unlike El Nido’s standardized tours, Port Barton boat trips are generally arranged through your guesthouse and tend to be more flexible. Popular stops include German Island, Exotic Island, Paradise Island, and Turtle Island — where sea turtle sightings are common. A full-day boat tour costs around ₱1,000 to ₱1,200 per person including lunch.

Snorkeling

The reefs around Port Barton are in better condition than many of El Nido’s more heavily visited lagoons. Coral coverage is high and fish diversity is excellent. Most island hopping tours include snorkeling stops with equipment.

The Beach at Port Barton Town

The beach directly in front of Port Barton village is wide, clean, and almost always quiet. A row of small restaurants and beach bars line the sand, most serving fresh seafood grilled to order at prices that seem unbelievably low compared to El Nido.

Waterfalls

Several waterfalls are accessible from Port Barton by motorbike or on foot through jungle trails. Pamuayan Falls is the most popular — a 30-minute hike from the village through tropical forest to a swimming hole beneath a tiered waterfall.

Where to Stay in Port Barton

Accommodation in Port Barton is almost entirely locally owned guesthouses and small beach huts. Prices range from ₱500 to ₱2,000 per night — significantly cheaper than El Nido. Most places are simple, clean, and right on or near the beach. Electricity in the village runs on a generator that may shut off at midnight in some areas.

Practical Tips

  • Bring all the cash you need — there is no ATM in Port Barton. The nearest is in Puerto Princesa or Roxas.
  • Download offline maps — Google Maps works but data is slow. Save the area offline before you lose signal.
  • Book accommodation before you arrive — Port Barton has limited rooms and good ones fill up during peak season despite its low profile.
  • Bring insect repellent — sand flies are active at dawn and dusk on the beach.
  • Don’t miss the sunsets — Port Barton faces west and the sunsets over the bay are some of the best in Palawan.
