El Nido’s weather is the single biggest factor in whether your trip is perfect or disappointing. Get the timing right and you get calm seas, blue skies, and flawless island hopping. Month-by-Month Guide
November ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Best Value Month
The dry season begins in November with calmer seas, clear skies, and good visibility for snorkeling. Accommodation prices have not yet hit their December peak so you get better rates with genuinely excellent weather. Island hopping runs reliably. This is one of the best months to visit El Nido if you can plan ahead.
December ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Peak Season Begins
Weather is excellent — sunny, calm, warm. The downside is that December is peak season and El Nido gets noticeably more crowded, especially from mid-December. Accommodation prices jump 30 to 60 percent over November rates. If you are visiting over Christmas or New Year, book everything at least 3 months in advance.
January ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Peak Season
January is one of the busiest months in El Nido. Weather is good with occasional cool days from the northeast monsoon. The lagoons on Tour A can feel overcrowded at peak times. Prices remain high from the Christmas-New Year rush and start easing slightly toward the end of the month.
February ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Still Peak, Fewer Crowds
February sees the tail end of peak season. Weather remains excellent and the post-Chinese New Year period (if it falls in February) sees a slight increase in Asian travelers. Generally considered a very good month to visit with slightly lower prices than December and January.
March ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Excellent Sweet Spot
March is outstanding — dry, hot, clear skies, calm seas. Crowds thin out considerably from the January peak. Prices begin falling. The visibility for snorkeling and diving is some of the best of the year. The only downside is rising temperatures — expect 33 to 36°C during the day.
April ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Hot but Beautiful
April is the hottest month in El Nido — temperatures regularly hit 35°C. Holy Week (usually falls in April) brings a significant crowd spike, especially from local Filipino tourists. Outside of Holy Week, April is actually a solid month with good prices and reliable weather.
May ⭐⭐⭐ — Transition Month
May marks the transition between dry and wet seasons. Early May still has good weather. Late May sees the first rains and occasional rough seas that can affect island hopping. A calculated gamble — early May travelers usually get good conditions, late May travelers may have mixed luck.
June ⭐⭐ — Rainy Season Begins
The southwest monsoon arrives in June. Seas get rough, island hopping tours are frequently cancelled or modified, and rain falls most afternoons. Not recommended for first-time visitors or anyone whose main goal is lagoon exploration.
July–September ⭐ — Avoid for Island Hopping
These are the wettest months. Strong winds and rough seas make island hopping dangerous or impossible for extended periods. Many tour operators suspend operations or offer very limited routes. Accommodation prices are at their lowest but you may find yourself stuck on shore for days at a time.
October ⭐⭐ — Improving
October is a transition month similar to May but at the other end of the rainy season. Weather begins to improve from the middle of the month. Some travelers who visit in late October get fortunate with good conditions, others do not. Prices are low and accommodation is plentiful.
