Day 1 — Arrive in Puerto Princesa

All commercial flights to Palawan land at Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Most domestic flights from Manila take about 1 hour 15 minutes. After landing, check into your hotel and spend the afternoon exploring Rizal Avenue — the main strip with restaurants, cafés, and local shops.

Where to eat: Kinabuch’s Grill on Rizal Avenue for fresh seafood. Budget around ₱400–600 per person for dinner.
Where to stay: Microtel Puerto Princesa or Hue Hotel for comfortable mid-range options in the city center.

Tip: Withdraw enough cash at the airport or a city ATM before heading north. Port Barton and El Nido have limited cash access.

Day 2 — Puerto Princesa Underground River

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Boat tours go 4.3 km inside a stunning cave system with dramatic rock formations. This is the main reason most travelers stop in Puerto Princesa rather than rushing straight to El Nido.

How to get there: Sabang is 81 km from Puerto Princesa city. Book a day tour through your hotel or a local tour operator — the tour typically includes transport, the permit, and a boat ride through the cave. Total cost around ₱1,200–1,500 per person.
Permits: Book your underground river permit at least a few days in advance during peak season — daily visitor numbers are capped and slots sell out.

Day 3 — Puerto Princesa to Port Barton

Take a morning van transfer from Puerto Princesa to Port Barton — the drive takes around 3 to 3.5 hours. Aim for the 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM departure so you arrive with a full afternoon at Long Beach.

Port Barton is a small coastal village that has not yet been overrun by mass tourism. The beach in front of the town is calm and clean, with a row of casual beachside restaurants perfect for a late lunch and a swim.

Van transfer: Book with Palawan Transfers from ₱750 per person. Book here.

Day 4 — Island Hopping from Port Barton

Port Barton’s island hopping is far less crowded than El Nido’s. The same turquoise water and white sand beaches, but without the queues of boats. A full-day boat tour from Port Barton visits several small islands including German Island, Exotic Island, and Turtle Island — named for the sea turtles that frequent its reefs.

Cost: Around ₱1,000–1,200 per person for a shared boat tour including lunch.
Book: Through your guesthouse the night before — tours fill up and leaving it too late means you may miss out.

Day 5 — Port Barton to El Nido

Two options: van north along the main road (1.5 to 2 hours) or speedboat directly from Port Barton to El Nido (3 to 4 hours, more scenic, weather dependent). Most travelers take the van for reliability.

Arrive in El Nido in time for lunch and spend the afternoon exploring the town, booking your island hopping tours for Day 6, and watching the sunset from Las Cabanas Beach — a 15-minute tricycle ride from town and one of the best sunset spots in Palawan.

Day 6 — El Nido Island Hopping

El Nido’s four standardized island hopping tours (A, B, C, D) are set by the municipal government. Tour A is the most popular — it visits the Big Lagoon, Secret Lagoon, and Seven Commandos Beach. Tour C is the second most popular and visits Helicopter Island, Secret Beach, and the Matinloc Shrine.

Tours run from roughly 9 AM to 5 PM and cost ₱1,200–1,400 per person including a beach barbecue lunch. Book the day before through any tour operator in El Nido town.

Practical tip: Bring cash — many island stops and lagoon entry fees require cash payment on the spot. Bring reef-safe sunscreen as chemical sunscreen is prohibited at many protected lagoons.

Day 7 — El Nido to Puerto Princesa, Fly Home

Take the 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM van from El Nido back to Puerto Princesa. The drive takes 5 to 6 hours, so a 5:00 AM departure puts you at the airport by 11:00 AM — comfortable for afternoon or evening flights. Most domestic flights to Manila depart between 1 PM and 8 PM.

Return van transfer: Book your El Nido to Puerto Princesa return transfer here. Book this at the same time as your outbound trip so you are not scrambling for a seat on Day 6.
